The masterclass provides an excellent opportunity for you to explore the world of glazing and acquire essential skills and knowledge to help you make your own glazes.
Glaze making can often seem overwhelming, especially when confronted with a variety of unfamiliar powders. This workshop is designed to help you become acquainted with the key materials and learn what they do and how to apply them.

Elena Gileva is a London-based artist with a strong focus on decorative, historical, and ornamental themes, working primarily in ceramics, sculpture, and installation.
Your Course
During this one day course you’ll undertake a combination of practical and theoretical exercises, that will help you to learn to read and analyse glaze recipes, mix glazes, and use line blending techniques to create a broader range of colours and textures from a single base glaze. Its the perfect introduction for anyone who is just at the beginning of their glaze making journey.
- Introduction to glaze theory and basic chemistry
- Understand the materials used and how to read and follow a glaze recipe
- Receive and overview of health and safety when working with glaze materials
- Learn how to line blend oxides and stains and opacifiers, using existing base glaze recipes to create a varied pallete
