Sarah Rickard
Sarah Rickard is a ceramic artist based in Heathfield, East Sussex, known for her intricate, nature-inspired decorative ceramics. Her work draws deeply on her love for the natural world, mythology, and folklore, which she studied through a B.A. (Hons) in Contemporary Crafts at Manchester Metropolitan University. Since then, Sarah has developed her craft across multiple disciplines, including fine art, illustration, and design, but ceramics has remained her primary medium.
Working predominantly in white earthenware, Sarah employs slab-building techniques, incorporating impressions of plants and various textures into the clay. Her decorative methods are rich and varied, often featuring techniques like sgraffito and paper resist, which allow her to blend her skills in drawing and painting directly onto the clay surface. Recently, she has also incorporated underglazes, oxides, and occasionally, custom transfers from her original artwork to add layers of depth and personal expression to her pieces
Sarah’s ceramics have been exhibited in galleries both in the UK and internationally. Her work, often featuring whimsical themes and natural motifs, appeals to collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Her studio in her garden serves as both a creative sanctuary and a connection point for her loyal following, who appreciate the heartfelt narrative and careful craftsmanship in each of her unique creations.
