Patricia Shone
Patricia Shone is a distinguished ceramicist whose work reflects the rugged beauty of her surroundings on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
Patricia Shone combines her mastery of form with a profound connection to the natural world. Her work draws heavily on the textures and colours of Skye’s landscape, from the rich tones of moss and lichen to the stark ruggedness of exposed rock and peatlands. This interplay of monumental mass and intricate detail is captured in her hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics.
Shone’s signature style is marked by textured surfaces and earthy finishes, achieved through a combination of techniques such as wood firing, glazing, and slip application. These processes imbue her work with a tactile quality, echoing the natural erosion and weathering found in the Scottish Highlands. Her forms, often functional vessels like jars and bowls, reflect the human connection to both utility and the natural environment.
A selected member of the Craft Potters Association, Shone’s career has been celebrated internationally, with her works featured in prestigious exhibitions, including Collect at the Saatchi Gallery in London and SOFA Chicago. Her dedication to craft earned her the Emmanuel Cooper Prize in 2019, and her creations are now part of the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Patricia Shone’s ceramics invite viewers to engage with the layers of time and texture present in the landscapes that inspire her.
