Dan Kelly

Dan Kelly, a leading ceramic artist based in Camberwell, London, is known for his distinctive approach to thrown stoneware and porcelain.  His work often reflects an urban sensibility, informed by his life in South East London and a fascination with architectural form and the human figure. Influenced by traditional European and Far Eastern ceramics, Kelly’s pots embody both timeless craftsmanship and a contemporary aesthetic.

Kelly’s ceramic style emphasises simplicity and refinement, often working with a monochrome palette to accentuate form and surface details. His process is highly intuitive, embracing the natural qualities of clay and the immediacy of throwing. Rather than focusing on intricate ornamentation, Kelly’s pieces celebrate the subtleties of shape, texture, and contrast between smooth porcelain and the tactile surface of high-fired stoneware

After training at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal College of Art, Kelly pursued a career that has seen his work displayed in prestigious exhibitions across the UK and internationally, from the Victoria and Albert Museum’s “Collect” showcase to various prominent galleries including Galerie Besson and Contemporary Ceramics in London

Kelly’s work has earned him a following among collectors who appreciate his minimalist approach and the evocative qualities of his vessels, which frequently suggest familial or architectural relationships through form and arrangement. His dedication to his craft and his unique stylistic approach continue to make him a respected figure in the world of contemporary ceramics.
